Signs Your Loved One Needs More Care Than You Can Provide Alone
May 8, 2026
Most caregivers wait longer than they should to seek additional help. They feel that asking for more support means they have failed. They have not.
Frequent falls. Recurring falls suggest a need for more supervision or a safer environment.
Medication errors. Missing doses, doubling doses, or refusing medication becomes dangerous over time.
Wandering. If your loved one leaves the house unsafely or attempts to leave at night, the risk of serious injury is high.
You are no longer sleeping. If caregiving has made adequate sleep impossible for months, your own health is now at serious risk.
You feel afraid of them. Aggression in dementia is common and not the person's fault, but if you feel physically unsafe, the current situation cannot continue.
Recognizing these signs is not giving up. It is good judgment. Asking for help is an act of love, not failure.
